  • Story Structure

Narrative is a universal human activity used to convey history, values, and life experiences. This document analyzes how to construct effective and engaging stories using various classic structural models.

  1. Three-Act Structure
    • Divided into three acts: Setup, Confrontation, and Resolution.
    • Popularized by Syd Field, it emphasizes a clear “beginning-middle-ending” logic.
    • Ensuring a clear progression and climax in the story.
  2. Hero’s Journey
    • Originating from Joseph Campbell’s “Single Myth” theory
    • Christopher Vogler simplified it into 12 steps, divided into three stages:
      • Departure (Ordinary World → Refusing the Call → Meeting the Mentor → Crossing the First Threshold)
      • Enlightenment (Trials, Allies, Enemies → Approaching the Deepest Cave → Tribulations)
      • Return (Reward → The Road Back → Resurrection → Returning with the Panacea)
  3. Story Circle
    • Dan Harmon simplifies the Hero’s Journey into 8 steps:
      • Comfort Zone → Needs → Entering an Unfamiliar Environment → Adapting → Getting What You Want → Paying the Price → Returning → Changing
  4. Five-Act Structure
    • Originating from Roman dramatic theory, and developed by Freitag into the Freitag Pyramid:
      • Beginning → Ascent → Climax → Descending → Ending (including resolution and conclusion)
  5. Kishōtenketsu
    • Originating from East Asian narrative aesthetics, it does not rely on conflict but emphasizes shifts in perspective and unexpectedness.
    • Four parts:
      • Introduction
      • Development
      • Turning Point
      • Conclusion

  • Stitch’s Tea Party

I learned and used Parent, Constrains, and Locator in Maya independently through YouTube videos and discussions with my classmates. Then, by creating a tea-drinking stitch, I became proficient in using Parent and Locator.

  • Activity:
    • Stitch is learning how to make a tea, he will take the following action

I created and edited the videos separately. I’ve only learned the basics of creating Parent and Locator. I’m not yet very proficient at creating smooth animations within the same video using the switch controller. I will improve in the future.

  • Heavy Object & Change of Mind

I’d like to tell a short story. A ninja walking down the street suddenly heard a baby crying in the air. He looked up and saw a box falling, so he leaped up to catch it. Then he realized it was a radio and changed his mind.

Planning

First, I think my understanding of heavy objects is a bit off. Second, there aren’t any shots of him clearly changing his mind.
